What is E-Governance?
As per UNESCO, "E-Governance involves new styles of leadership, new ways of debating and deciding policy and investment, new ways of accessing education, new ways of listening to citizens and new ways of organizing and delivering information and services".
E-Governance (or electronic governance) is the application of information communication technology (a.k.a ICT) for quick and reliable exchange of information and services between its three clients: (1) Citizens or Customers (2) Businesses and (3) Other arms of government (e.g State, Municipal-Local & Central Government in India). It represents a two-way communication.
Yet, it is considered as a wider concept than E-Government, as it brings about a change in the governance of a country. While E-Government is delivery of information and services to the public using electronic media (i.e. New Media- The Internet), E-Governance involves direct participation of citizens with the government in various activities inclusive of political elements e.g. E-Voting, E-Democracy etc. E-Governance tries to establish a fortified inter-relationship between citizens, the businesses and the government.
