What are the key benefits of E-Governance?
How is it advantageous to the society at large?
After all, E-Governance is about "reform in governance", with creativity endorsed by Information Communication Technologies (ICT). This would lead to:
- Better access to information and quality services for citizens: ICT is responsible for timely and reliable information on E-Governance. Initially, the information would be in the form of forms, rules, laws, procedures with subsequent extensions of detailed information with due regard to reports, public database, decision-making processes etc. On the other hand, with introduction of services via the digital platform (online and one-point accessibility), there is immense savings in time, effort and money. The objective is to reach far out to citizens, and provide public services from birth to death.
- Simplicity, efficiency and accountability in the government: Business Process Engineering will phase out complexity and inculcate simplicity in carrying out of transactions between the government and its clients (citizens, businesses and other governments). Simple functioning of the government & enhanced decision-making capabilities will pave way for an environment in which the government machinery stands accurate and accountable. This reform will increase the productivity in all sectors of the Indian government and economy.
- Expanded reach of government: Rapid growth of communications technology would make citizens closer to the government. Growth of telephone networks & mobile telephony, spread of the internet and development in other kinds of communication infrastructure would strengthen the delivery of services provided by the government.
